StoryCodex

Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 6, 2026

StoryCodex ("we", "us", or "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you use StoryCodex, how we use it, and the choices you have.

The short version: we do not sell, rent, or share your personal information or the content you create with anyone. Your stories are yours.

Information we collect

Account information. When you sign in with a third-party provider (such as Google), we receive your name and email address. We use this only to create and identify your account.

Content you create. The works, characters, places, sections, progression data, and other creative information you enter is stored so that it is available to you whenever you return.

Technical information. We process the minimal information needed to operate the service securely, such as your sign-in session.

Sign-in records. Each time you sign in, we record the date and time, your browser's user agent, and your IP address. We keep these to protect your account — for example to recognise unfamiliar access and to see which accounts are still in use. They are not used for advertising or profiling, and they are permanently deleted when you cancel your account.

Error reports. When something goes wrong in StoryCodex, we record the error along with the page you were on, your browser's user agent, your IP address and — if you were signed in — your account. We use these only to diagnose and fix faults, and we delete them once they are no longer useful. They are not used for advertising or profiling.

Service request records. When StoryCodex loads or saves your work, we record which part of the service was used, whether the request came from the website or the Android app, whether you were signed in — and if so, which account — the time, and how the request was answered. We keep these to run the service: to see what is being used, to find faults, and to spot abuse. They contain none of your writing, are not used for advertising or profiling, are deleted automatically after 90 days, and the link to your account is permanently removed when you cancel it.

Usage analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how StoryCodex is used — for example, which pages are visited and general device and approximate location information. This is collected with cookies and used in aggregate to improve the service, never to identify you personally (see Analytics below).

How we use your information

We use your information solely to provide and maintain StoryCodex: to authenticate you, to keep your content available across sessions, and to keep the service running and secure. We do not use your content for advertising, and we do not profile you.

We do not share your information

We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share your personal information or the content you create with any third party for their own purposes.

The only limited exceptions are the trusted infrastructure providers that host and store your data on our behalf so the service can run, the analytics provider described below that helps us understand how the service is used, and any disclosure we are legally required to make. We use these services only to operate and improve StoryCodex — we never sell your information or the content you create.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics, a service provided by Google, to collect aggregate statistics about how visitors use StoryCodex so we can improve it. Google Analytics uses cookies and may process information such as the pages you visit, your approximate location, and basic device and browser details. We do not use this information to identify you or to advertise to you. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy, and you can opt out across all websites with Google's opt-out browser add-on.

Where consent is required — for example in the EU, EEA, and UK — we ask before any analytics cookies are set: until you accept, analytics storage stays disabled, and you may decline. You can change your choice at any time by clearing the StoryCodex cookies in your browser.

Spam protection

Our public contact form is protected by Google reCAPTCHA v3, which helps us tell real visitors from automated abuse. reCAPTCHA collects hardware and software information (such as device and browser data) and sends it to Google for analysis; we use it only to keep the form free of spam, never to identify or advertise to you. Its use is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Data security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including access controls and isolating your data so it is only available to your account. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your stories safe.

Data retention and deletion

We retain your account and content for as long as your account is active. You may cancel your account at any time from your profile page: your account is deleted along with any collections only you can access, and your access to shared collections is removed (they remain available to their other collaborators). When you cancel, your personal information — your name, email address, and sign-in records — is permanently erased, and error reports and service request records are stripped of anything that identifies you. Content you contributed to shared collections remains available to their collaborators, no longer attributed to you. You may also request deletion of your account and associated content by contacting us.

Children's privacy

StoryCodex is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of StoryCodex after a change means you accept the updated policy.
